SUITABLE FOR RECENT RADIOGRAPHY GRADUATES WANTING TO SPECIALISE IN BREAST SCREENING
** A full UK driving license is essential for this role**
The North and East Devon Breast Screening Service has an eligible population of approximately 180,000 women who are invited to screening over a 3-year screening round. The static breast screening unit is currently located in Exeter providing a screening and assessment service. Screening is also carried out on two mobile units covering a geographical area including 19 sites throughout North and East Devon which include supermarket car parks, local council car parks and hospital sites. Screening patients are referred to the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Trust for surgical and oncological treatments.
- As a Trainee Mammographer you will provide a high-quality imaging service to all users of the service and screen women for breast cancer by mammography. You will participate in assessment clinics including stereotactic biopsies and participate in the support of development of assistant practitioners.
- Undertaking a postgraduate course in Mammography
- Taking high quality mammograms
- Participating in the unit’s Quality Assurance Programme and taking remedial action when necessary
- Preparing and assisting in biopsy procedures including targeting for stereotactic examinations
- Taking part in a rota to cover work on mobile screening sites and Exeter’s static site.
- Ensuring enough supplies are available at mobile sites and arrange transportation if necessary
- Being competent in the use of all clinical equipment used by the Service
- Keeping up to date with current trends and techniques in mammography
- Being able to deal with nervous or anxious clients
- Recording clinical observations
- Being confident and professional at all times
- Being able to enter all quality assurance data on the computer
- Dealing with equipment malfunction and know when to suspend its use
- Maintaining a current CPD portfolio
- Identifying images suitable for teaching purposes
- Abiding by the Ionising Radiation Regulations.
Skills and experience
- BSc in Radiography
- Current HCPC registration
- Working in a customer facing role
- Using Microsoft packages and other IT systems
- Working as part of a team but also independently
- Knowledge of data protection and confidentiality laws.
